Free London

Even with student discounts living in London can be expensive, but fear not, even when funds are running a little low there is still loads to do in London without spending any money at all.

1

Look down...

There are some incredible views across London from places like Parliament and Primrose hill, but if you really want something special head to the Tate Modern or the Sky Garden. Both offer 360 degree views across London as well as places to pick up a bite to eat – the perfect place to meet friends. You’ll need to book tickets for the Sky Garden, but they are free.

2

Visit some animals.

Golders Hill park is right next to Golders Green station on the Northern Line (a couple of stops away from Middlesex University)  - it is not just any park though – it has a free zoo and butterfly house!  You shouldn’t go expecting to see lions and elephants, but to meet some unexpected animals that you wouldn’t usually run into in London its perfect. Make sure you say hello to these guys:

Try something new.

Lots of universities offer activities for younger students, and they are often free. Try out a subject you have never studied before, or get stuck into something you know you already enjoy. Taster days are a great way to get out of the house, meet new people, and experience university life. Head to the HEInLondon website and explore some activities – you can search by subject, area, or type.

Free lunch!

Ok so it is not really ‘lunch’ but you’ll definitely get full taking a wander around one of Londons many markets. Berwick street market is one of Londons oldest, and is full of stands selling the most delicious food – the best bit – most of them give away free samples to tempt you!

Boring old museums.

Really?! It is impossible to become bored with so much on offer in London. Head over to Kensington to find the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. All three are free and absolutely packed full of hands-on, interactive and fun exhibits – and if you can’t find something interesting in one, just head across the road to try something else!
